On Saturday 17 August 2024, a new home for the elderly in Nové Město na Moravě was officially opened. The investor and operator is Diaconia ECCB, the centre in Myslibořice. Nové Město will thus gain a dignified home for people with dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease. The first residents will be admitted during the month of September.
Thirty seniors from Nové Město na Moravě and the surrounding area will find their new home here. Direct care will be provided by 22 employees who will use the support and know-how of their maternity centre in Myslibořice, which has been caring for people with dementia for more than 30 years.
The mission of the care home is to provide the necessary care for people who, due to the manifestations of dementia, need regular help from another person and can no longer stay in their own home. The care focuses primarily on respecting individual needs and human rights, ensuring a dignified experience of life and participation in society.
"We have been preparing the project since 2015. This time has allowed us to think carefully about who Pomněnka (Forget-Me-Not) will be intended for, and we have also used it to discuss with the architect. Thanks to this, we managed to create the conditions for the creation of a new residential service for people with dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease, which was missing in Nové Město na Moravě. We have also managed to build a modern home for the elderly that is in line with current trends. The Pomněnka home provides sufficient comfort for the residents, is spacious for the staff and is also environmentally friendly," says Petr Hladík, head of the Pomněnka Home and manager of its construction.
The layout of the home is elliptical. Based on the experience of social services of similar type, it is suitable for clients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease to feel safe in the facility and at the same time helps them to navigate. The memory care facility has a secure inner courtyard with landscaping that can be accessed directly from adjacent rooms. Single and double rooms with private bathroom facilities are standard.
Modern reclining beds and a number of common areas where the home's clients can attend various programs or meet with their loved ones also contribute to comfort. Of course, the diaconal home also includes a chapel for spiritual care for clients and staff.
The Pomněnka Home is equipped with modern technology that saves energy, makes life easier and eases the work of the staff. The home draws warmth for heating and hot water from deep within the earth, recycles heat from the air, and the green roof filters and retains water.
The opening ceremony took place in the presence of partners who contributed significantly to the construction and also to the purchase of the home's equipment. These partners are the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the City of Nové Město na Moravě, the Vysočina Region, the Ministry of the Environment - State Environmental Fund, the Community of Donors of the Diaconia ECCB, the municipalities of the Novoměstsko Microregion and others.
