Dear readers,

A few years ago, it probably wouldn’t have occurred to anyone that we would be living in a time of war. Perhaps better not to mention that conflicts tend to encourage other conflicts. So, from the comfort of our homes, we are watching more horrors and injustice taking place, this time in Israel.

However, our Bulletin mainly focuses on what is happening in our church, and there is more hope to be found there. The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren is a sober church with a sense of humour. And it is a free-thinking church. This is proven, among other things, by the fact that its ministers have included both men and women for quite some time now. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Synod’s decision to let women be ordained to minister the Word as well as the Sacraments, which was a revolutionary step to take at the time. The Synod took place on 30 October 1953. How did the vote turn out?

79 members of the Synod voted in favour of the Synodal Council’s proposal, 1 voted against, and 1 abstained. Isn’t that wonderful?

You can read about it in this edition of the Bulletin.

Dear friends, in spite of all the fright that surrounds us, the Advent season is here. Our Lord has experienced his share of fright, He does not approve of it, He suffers with us. And He wishes that the peace of the Lord, which surpasses all thought, shall guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
