The Diaconia of the ECCB announces a collection to support people affected by the floods

September 18, 2024

Heavy rainfall in large parts of the Czech Republic has caused river levels to rise to multi-year highs in recent days and caused extensive damage. Some villages and towns are almost completely under water. The Diaconia of the ECCB is therefore calling for a public collection to help the people affected by the floods.

The Centre for Humanitarian and Development Cooperation of the ECCB's Diaconia has launched a collection for the regions affected by the flood disaster caused by storm Boris over Europe. The Czech Republic has been hit by extreme rainfall and strong winds in recent days.

“In the coming days, we will be in close contact with representatives of the Integrated Rescue System (IZS) and the crisis teams. Diaconia's volunteers are prepared to monitor the damage in the affected areas in accordance with the instructions of the crisis teams, provide initial psychosocial assistance and carry out crisis interventions,” says Dalibor Hála, spokesperson for Diaconia of the ECCB, adding: “We are currently starting our campaign asking donors to give something for the public collection we have announced. We are grateful for every donation. With these donations, we will be able to provide help in the affected areas in the coming weeks. You can find information about Diaconia's activities on the website povodne.diakonie.cz.”

Diaconia has volunteers on standby
