The Evangelical Faculty of Theology at Charles University has a new dean. Petr Gallus was inaugurated by Charles University Rector Jiří Zima on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in the Karolina Patriotic Hall.
Petr Gallus was elected as a candidate for dean by the Academic Senate of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University at its meeting on February 24, 2026. He was supported by 10 out of 10 senators, and he had no opponent in the election. He replaces Jan Roskovec, who has been at the head of the faculty since 2022. The Rector of Charles University, Jiří Zima, entrusted P. Gallus with the role of dean at the ceremonial inauguration for a four-year term.
Petr Gallus has set as his main task the continued effort to increase the number of students, prepare reaccreditations of practically all study programs and, last but not least, the generational renewal of the teaching staff. In the field of science, the main emphasis will be on strengthening international cooperation, obtaining grants and creating quality outputs with social relevance.
Doc. Petr Gallus, Ph.D. at the ETF of Charles University has previously served as Vice-Dean for Development and Head of the Department of Church History and Systematic Theology. He studied Evangelical Theology at the Charles University Faculty of Theology, and completed part of his studies in Germany. In 2005–2006, he worked as an assistant professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg. In 2007, he was ordained as a pastor of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and until 2016, he served as a pastor in the congregation in Sázava. Since 2016, he has taught again at the Charles University Faculty of Theology as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor at the Department of Systematic Theology and the Department of Ethics. In 2021, he habilitated there in the field of systematic theology. He is primarily interested in issues of anthropology, Christology, methodology of science, the dialogue between theology and philosophy, and contemporary problems of social ethics. He is the author of several monographs, including the books Člověk před Bohem (Man Before God) and Perspektiva vzkříšení (Perspective of the Resurrection; ranked in joint 1st place in the 2023 Charles University competition of high-quality monographs).
