On the occasion of the 1000th day since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the Lutheran World Federation invited the partner churches to an online prayer on 20 November. It was led by Pastor Ireneusz Lukas together with the office of the LWF Church Fellowship. The sermon was delivered by Prof Dr Dmytro Tsolin, pastor of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine.
Prof Dr Dmytro Tsolin comes from the Kherson region. He studied in Kherson, Berrien Springs, Michigan, St. Petersburg (dissertation on the Transformation of the Pentateuch’s Literary Forms in the Targums), Kyiv (dissertation on the Syntactic Fundamentals of Poetical Discourse. On the Material of Jewish Liturgical Poetry in Aramaic from the 2-nd - 8-th Centuries) and Jerusalem. He has been an associate professor of biblical studies at the Ukrainian Catholic Faculty in Lviv since 2021 and a full professor since 2023. As a pastor of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine, he regularly holds church services there.
The German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine (DELKU) was founded by German settlers in the 19th century. It is made up of congregations, particularly in the north and east of Ukraine, and currently has around 1,000 members. Its bishop is Pawlo Schwarz. The church has been a member of the Lutheran World Federation since 2022.
