On Sunday, 5 October 2025, during a solemn service at St. Martin in the Wall Church in Prague, a total of four preachers from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren were ordained to serve the Word and the sacraments.
On Sunday, 5 October, during a solemn service at St. Martin in the Wall Church in Prague, Minister Ondřej Zeman, Deacon Marek Belza, and Deaconesses Jana Peřtová and Johana Miriam Vorlová were ordained to the ministry of the Word and the sacraments.
The sermon was delivered by Pavel Pokorný, and the Eucharist was led by Deputy Synodal Senior Ondřej Titěra. The new preachers also took part in the celebration.
The service also included greetings from guests. Jan Jun, Ondřej Kolář and Martin Sabo spoke on behalf of the mentors in whose congregations the preachers had completed their vicariate or diaconate internships. Petr Sláma conveyed greetings on behalf of the Protestant Theological Faculty.
All those newly ordained since this autumn have taken up their new posts. Two of them will be working in Prague – Ondřej Zeman in Jižní Město and Johana Miriam Vorlová will be joining the team of preachers in the congregation of Uhříněves. Marek Belza has been working in Teplá in western Bohemia since October, and Jana Peřtová will be the preacher of the long-vacant congregation in Bruntál.
The conditions for ministry in word and sacrament, as laid down in the regulations of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, were also fulfilled by Minister Michal Devečka, who previously served as a clergyman in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Since autumn 2025, he has been a preacher in the Protestant congregation in Klobouky u Brna.
We wish the newly ordained preachers God's rich blessings for their service in the Church.
