Lydie Roskovcová was born on 20 November 1936, into a prominent Evangelical family. After completing her secondary education at a gymnasium in Prague, she graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University. She subsequently spent over thirty years working at the Institute of Physics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (ČSAV), where she conducted research on the optical properties of semiconductors.

Within the church, she was highly active in her home congregation in Prague-Střešovice, serving for many years as both an elder (presbyter) and a lay leader (curator). From 1997 to 2003, she served as the first Lay Moderator in the history of the church. She was also the first editor-in-chief of the magazine Český bratr ("The Czech Brother"), which she led from 1994 to 2002.

In her public appearances, she emphasized the importance of tolerance, listening, and ecumenical cooperation. She considered the Evangelical Church’s openness to dialogue and its respect for diverse viewpoints to be among its greatest strengths.
