Easter collection will support the reconstruction of the rectory in Nymburk

March 30, 2026

Every year at Easter, Evangelical parishes organize a solidarity collection for one selected building or reconstruction of a church, rectory or congregational area. This collection for the Main Construction Project is remembered by many as the collection for the "Main Gift of Love". It is organized by the Jeronýmova jednota (Jeroným's Unity) - the building fund of the Evangelical Church.

This year we invite you to Nymburk

To the Hrabalovský poetic Elbe town of railways, sports and beer Postřižinské. And also to the Evangelicals. Here, in a very lively community, they take care of the premises of the Neo-Renaissance church and rectory built during the boom of the Austro-Hungarian North-West Railway.

We are donating the proceeds of this year's Easter collection to the complete reconstruction of the Nymburk Evangelical rectory - so that an apartment for the pastor and his family will be created under one roof, as well as facilities for numerous church and community activities.

Nymburk is alive!

Evangelicals come together here across all generations and in rich ecumenical diversity. Faith, values and traditions naturally emerge from the closed walls of the church and permeate the town, its neighborhood meetings, cultural life, community and association activities and civil society.

Not only did Christians find a background and community at the rectory for worship and spiritual gatherings, but the parish choir in Nymburk also cooperates on a short-term or long-term basis with:

  • local homeschool
  • kindergarten
  • social service provider FOKUS
  • advisory service for seniors
  • town cultural center
  • probation and mediation service
  • and other...

Regular and open cooperation takes place with representatives of the town hall, the city library and three other Nymburk churches. The Evangelical congregation's premises are also naturally open to visitors during Church Nights, Restaurant Days, concerts, lectures and other events.

What is coming?

The rectory building has been standing since the end of the 19th century and the layout of the priest's apartment has not changed since then. In practice, this means that the hall, corridor, toilet, partly the kitchen, but also the living room serve both the priest's family and the congregation. The energy demand is high, the heating method is uneconomical. And the Under One Roof project will solve all this.

The reconstructed rectory will become a modern, comfortable and peaceful place for the life of the pastor and his family. At the same time, it will also offer a separate congregational part, where all meetings will finally be able to take place in a way that:

  • offers shelter in all weathers,
  • is safe and barrier-free,
  • has its own facilities in the form of toilets and a kitchen,
  • offers enough space and variability for various association, non-profit and social activities.

Current situation (until 2025). The drawing shows the individual zones as they are used today. Where the colors meet, there are clashes due to mixed use: congregational events violate the privacy of the parish apartment (and vice versa). The parish kitchen, living room, toilet and bathroom, as well as the hall and all corridors are used for congregational meetings or other events.

Final state after reconstruction (from 2027). There will be a strict separation of the parish priest's apartment and the congregational premises. The newly acquired congregational facilities will offer all the necessary equipment for year-round gatherings of all generations and will also be completely barrier-free. The rectory as a whole will retain its neo-Renaissance impressiveness, but in terms of operation and use it will meet 21st century standards.
